Mechanical Technician – Boat Building

SYR are seeking a skilled and highly motivated Mechanical Technician to join our clients boat building team. The successful candidate will be responsible for assembling and constructing mechanical systems and components for boats, working from detailed engineering drawings and blueprints. This role requires a deep understanding of mechanical systems, precision craftsmanship, and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Key Responsibilities:
- Boat Building & Assembly: Assemble and install mechanical systems, components, and parts for boats in accordance with detailed technical drawings and specifications.
- Mechanical Systems Installation: Work on various mechanical systems, including engines, propulsion systems, steering, and electrical systems as required for boat assembly.
- Quality Control: Ensure all work is performed to the highest quality standards, meeting safety regulations and project specifications.
- Troubleshooting & Repairs: Diagnose and resolve issues with mechanical systems during the boat construction process, ensuring functionality and performance.
- Collaborative Work: Communicate effectively with the design, engineering, and production teams to ensure alignment with project requirements and timelines.
- Equipment & Tool Maintenance: Maintain and safely operate hand tools, power tools, and heavy equipment used in the assembly of mechanical systems.
- Documentation & Reporting: Keep detailed records of work performed, materials used, and any modifications or adjustments made during the build process.
Qualifications:
- Proven experience in mechanical assembly, preferably within the boat building or marine industry.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting detailed technical drawings, schematics, and blueprints.
- Strong knowledge of mechanical systems, including engines, propulsion, and steering mechanisms.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while maintaining high standards of quality and safety.
- Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
- Strong attention to detail and a commitment to producing high-quality work.
- Experience with fabrication, welding, and machining is a plus.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and meet project deadlines.
Education & Experience:
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant mechanical assembly or boat building experience.
- Technical certifications or apprenticeships in mechanical engineering or a related field is highly desirable.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift and carry heavy parts and equipment.
- Ability to work in various positions, including standing, kneeling, and bending for extended periods.
- Comfortable working in a marine workshop environment, which may include exposure to noise, heat, and humidity.
