Purchaser - Shipyard

We are currently seeking a Purchaser for our refit shipyard client based in Marseille. Part of a Europe-wide refit and new build group focussing on all areas of the maritime sector, this is a critical growth role for the yard

 This role involves building and maintaining a network of suppliers and subcontractors, as well as managing the procurement process to ensure the smooth operation of the shipyard. As the sole purchasing responsible within the team, you will be tasked with growing the purchasing function and in time building a team around you. 

Responsibilities:

• Develop and maintain relationships with suppliers and subcontractors to ensure timely and cost-effective procurement of materials and services.
• Negotiate contracts and terms with suppliers and subcontractors to achieve favorable pricing and delivery schedules.
• Coordinate with internal stakeholders to understand procurement needs and ensure timely fulfillment of orders.
• Monitor market trends and identify potential new suppliers to expand the network and improve procurement options.
• Collaborate with the finance department to track and manage purchasing budgets and expenditures.
• Liaise with suppliers and subcontractors to obtain quotes and negotiate terms.
• Collaborate with the shipyard operations team to understand their procurement needs and requirements.
• Monitor and track orders to ensure on-time delivery and adherence to budget constraints
• Analyze and report on procurement activities to identify potential cost-saving opportunities
• Keep abreast of industry trends and regulations to ensure compliance and best practices in procurement processes.

 

Our ideal candidate will possess the following skills 

• Proven experience in purchasing, preferably in the shipyard or maritime industry.
• Strong negotiation and interpersonal skills to build and maintain supplier relationships.
• Ability to analyze market trends and identify potential new suppliers.
• Proficiency in supplier management and procurement software systems.
