The Opportunity:
As a Senior PLC Control Systems Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in the design, development, and delivery of control systems for a diverse range of innovative projects. These projects span commercial, leisure, and shipping sectors, all united by the common goal of decarbonising the marine industry. You will be part of a dynamic team, providing technical leadership and expertise from concept through to commissioning and beyond.
Key Responsibilities:

Design, develop, and implement PLC-based control systems for marine applications, including safety-critical systems.

Create comprehensive control system architectures and specifications.

Develop PLC software using IEC 61131-3 programming languages (e.g., Structured Text, Function Block Diagram).

Design and integrate HMI/SCADA interfaces for intuitive system operation and monitoring.

Perform rigorous system testing, simulation, and validation.

Conduct commissioning activities on vessels, both in the UK and internationally.

Provide expert technical support and troubleshooting for deployed systems.

Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, including electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic engineers.

Contribute to project planning, scheduling, and risk assessment.

Mentor and guide junior engineers, fostering a culture of excellence.

Stay abreast of emerging technologies and industry best practices in control systems.
Your Profile:
Our client is seeking a highly experienced and proactive individual with:

A degree or equivalent qualification in Control Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Automation, or a related field.

Demonstrable extensive experience (typically 7+ years, adjust based on desired seniority) in the design and implementation of PLC-based control systems.

Proficiency with major PLC platforms (e.g., Siemens, Allen-Bradley, Beckhoff, Omron) and associated programming environments.

Strong understanding of industrial communication protocols (e.g., EtherCAT, Profinet, Modbus, CAN bus).

Experience with HMI/SCADA development and integration.
-
Familiarity with safety-related control systems and relevant standards (e.g., IEC 61508, ISO 13849) is highly desirable.

Experience with hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) or software-in-the-loop (SIL) testing is a significant advantage.

Previous experience in the marine, automotive, aerospace, or other highly regulated industries is preferred.
