Sales Manager - Refit Shipyard

Are you well networked amongst Captains, crews, management companies and family offices?

SYR are supporting a leading refit shipyard brand with a number of facilities across the Med region as they seek to employ a commercial figure to their team. 

A role that can be remote based, you’ll be joining a small commercial team to promote the services of the brand and attract yachts to the yard for seasonal refit works. With capability to take on vessels up to and over 100m and with covered yard space, the brand offer some of the best services available and are keen to take on more market share. Reporting into the regional Director, the role will see you fulfil the following duties:

– Acquaint yourself with the various services and facilities offered through the group to ensure you can accurately market the brand.

– Leverage your own black book of contacts to start commercial discussions around refit quotes.

– Attend a wide range of shows and events across the Med region in order to promote the brand.

– Use tools such as social media to identify and leverage connections that could lead to commercial discussions.

– Work closely with the project management and quotation teams in order to provide accurate and competitive refit pricing.

– Act as an early stage negotiator in order to win new business.

Whilst you’ll be supported by the project and quotation teams, this role will require a degree of technical knowledge as well as commercial awareness. Our ideal candidate will have already held a commercial role within either the new build or refit world and possess a strong and relevant network to tap into. You’ll be confident to travel both nationally and internationally and be comfortable in face to face and over the phone communication, remaining forever positive and approachable.

Shipyard Safety Manager

We’re looking to speak with an experienced Safety Manager with a shipyard background. 

Due to continued growth, our client are looking to appoint an accomplished safety professional to review and evolve their safety policies and procedures to bring them up to the highest standards. A reputable shipyard group with multiple offices, the team are looking to grow and onboard a safety professional with a strong track record. 

Reporting into shipyard management, the role will see you:

– On initial arrival, audit the yard to understand current policies and procedures before building a strategy.

– Spend time working through safety challenges to provide acceptable and sustainable ongoing outcomes.

– Work to develop SOPs and LOPs to ensure continued safety.

– Work with departments to understand their safety needs.

– Produce reports for management across safety policy, isolated and ongoing incidents.

– Act as the main point of contact for all safety matters.

In a candidate, we seek an individual who has previously fulfilled a similar role in safety in a shipyard environment. You’ll have a solid understanding of the various rules and regulations the shipyard is governed by and be able to drive the facility forwards as a beacon of safety and reliability. With an approachable character, you’ll be able to work closely with a range of stakeholders to ensure the organisation meets local and international requirements and be confident in managing a safe working environment for your colleagues.

Junior Project Manager

Are you currently working at sea but looking to come ashore or perhaps have worked in a yard based role following your education and keen to grow in the luxury yacht sector?

SYR have a continually growing relationship with a well established shipyard brand with a number of yards in major refit hubs and due to major growth plans we’re working with them to recruit a Junior Project Manager into the team. A means of bringing in new talent for the future, the role of Junior PM will see you support the existing project management team whilst learning and developing into a fully fledged Project Manager. 

Delegated within a project team, the role will include the following duties:

– Supporting the Project Manager to understand, plan and execute multiple projects.

– Work with purchasing, quotations and labour scheduling in order to accurately complete your assigned projects.

– Supporting the lead PM through project administration, reporting and quality control.

– Co-ordinating third party suppliers and trades required for projects.

As an individual you will have had exposure to refit projects either through working within a shipyard environment or as junior crew on a yacht being refit. You’ll have a keen eye for detail, be well organised and a sponge for learning and honing your skills in project management. With a solid technical understanding, you’ll have the capability to work with various stakeholders, meet deadlines and produce excellent results!

Purchaser - Yacht Refit

Are you an experienced Purchaser in the yachting sector based in the region of La Ciotat to Marseille?

SYR are working with an international refit group as they look to appoint a new member to their purchasing team. A key role within the organisation, you’ll be working with a wide range of service and product suppliers to purchase critical items and services for ongoing refit projects. 

Duties will include:

– Developing and building relationships with a wide range of local and international suppliers of services and products.

– Populating an in-house database with supplier contacts, contracts and information.

– Working with the quotations and projects department to understand buying lists.

– Purchasing and negotiating on a wide range of services and products.

– Ensuring quality and delivery of purchased items or services aligns with project need.

– Constantly keeping in touch with the industry and developments to ensure that the latest products are used on refits.

– Supplying accounts with required information for payments.

Ideally we are seeking someone who already works in a shipyard setting along the French Riviera. An individual with a strong network already in place who is keen to grow their career with a new employer who have an aggressive and challenging growth strategy. You’ll be organised, outgoing and ambitious and be rewarded for your hard work with a strong earnings package.

Crew Concierge

Are you considering coming ashore but want to remain engaged with yacht crews in a new role?

We’re working with a refit shipyard in Marseille who are looking to onboard a Crew Concierge to support yachts visiting them for winter refit. Part of a larger group with a number of Med based yards, the brand are constantly working to evolve and develop their offering to incoming crews and this role will focus on supporting those visiting the yard for extended yard periods. 

Reporting into the site Director, you will play an important support role to the organisation, with the following duties:

– Engaging with the projects team to gather information on yachts due on site for the season.

– Making initial contact with senior crew to introduce yourself and understand pre-arrival requirements.

– Welcoming vessels on site and offering a full suite of concierge services.

– Remaining a point of ongoing contact to crew throughout the yacht’s stay on site.

– Offer recommendations on local points of interest, places to eat etc.

– Working with the yacht to provision them for departure.

Our ideal candidate will be ex-crew located in the Marseille area, with a background in an on-board role such as a Stewardess. You’ll be approachable, well organised and have a sound knowledge of local brands and facilities. Able to identify commercial opportunities, you’ll be confident to maximise potential earnings for the business through exemplary support to yachts and crews.
