ROLE: COMMISSIONING & AFTERSALES TECHNICIAN
REPORTING TO: TECHNICAL AFTERSALES MANAGER
Key skills: A passion for boats; diagnostics and repairs; confident boat handling, power & sail.
Responsibilities will include but will not be limited to the following:
Commissioning new boats – in the UK and Europe, responsible for day-to-day commissioning process,
ensuring the highest standard of workmanship and customer experience.
• Arrival checks – unwrapping the boat; carrying out detailed checks against factory specification;
fitting all loose equipment; reporting any shortfalls and warranty defects.
• Testing – carry out thorough operational testing of all on-board systems including plumbing,
electrical systems including navigation, engines and gensets as well as all other mechanical systems.
• Onboard contractors – oversight, ensuring they work to our high standards.
• Reporting/recording – defects with technical summary and photographs, updating progress to
conclusion via our interactive reporting App, following through to conclusion.
• Sea trials – carrying out sea-trials to check all systems and sails underway, final commissioning
checks.
• Handover – carry out a detailed handover to the client, including full systems demonstration plus
sea trial in accordance with the company’s guidelines. Ensuring all documentation is completed and
returned as required.
Aftersales support – providing world class technical support and repairs.
• Owner/crew support – refresher training and boat handling.
• Warranty – carrying out diagnostics and repairs across the UK and Europe.
• Reporting – providing clear technical evidence and photographs for warranty analysis and reclaim.
• Annual inspections – as per factory protocols to maintain warranty.
• Assist with the general and shared functions and any other tasks to ensure the smooth operation
of the department, including good housekeeping of shed/stores and associated workplaces.
• Carry out all work in accordance with the company’s H&S policy.
Person specification:
❖ Recent and relevant working knowledge within the leisure marine industry – this is a
prerequisite of the role.
❖ Proficient boat handling skills, ideally motor & sail. RYA qualifications an advantage.
❖ Boat building skills/qualifications, keen eye for detail.
❖ Good understanding of modern boat systems with the ability to diagnose and repair.
❖ Strong initiative, excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
❖ Current holder of a UK driver’s license.
