SYR are working in close partnership with an exciting maritime project which requires a number of Mechanical/Hydraulic Technicians to join them during an upcoming project. 

Building craft for the most challenging of situations, this exciting yard are seeking individuals capable of working to the highest standard to install high level systems that will stand up to regular and sustained abuse. Reporting into the project lead, the role will come with the following duties:

– Working with the design team to understand placement and installation of a host of systems from propulsion and drivetrain through to controls, hydraulics and more.

– Installing a wide range of high performing systems into sometimes highly cramped and difficult locations.

– Ensuring fit and finish of every item is of the highest standard and meets the needs of the project.

– Basic system testing both in the yard and on sea trial.

– Troubleshooting across a host of mechanical and hydraulic systems, suggesting upgrades, changes or modifications for better performance.

Our ideal candidate for this role will come from a background in marine engineering but with an exceptional eye for detail and a passion for top quality work. You’ll be capable of working in confined spaces and know how to work with systems to ensure optimum performance. An ability to install from CAD drawing is essential, along with a can-do attitude and a willingness to work with a team.

    High Voltage Electrical Technician

    We’ve an exciting opportunity for a number of Electrican Technicians with high voltage and hybrid system experience to join a high profile and exciting project in the maritime sector. 

    A groundbreaking organisation designing and building first-in-class maritime projects, the organisation is embarking on a major new project that will require HV electrical support. Reporting into the production lead, the role will include the following duties:

    – Working with and supporting the design team in the build and test of a range of HV and LV systems used across maritime projects. 

    – Creating looms and systems using CAN-BUS technology that will be highly reliable and able to handle the strains and pressures of marine environments.

    – Troubleshooting across a variety of projects to ensure electrical systems are fit for use and will align with industry standard and regulation.

    – fault-finding both on bench and in live situations, troubleshooting to find accurate and suitable solutions.

    Working as part of a small but highly talented team, you’ll be able to support exciting projects, pushing your ability and knowledge in electrics and showcasing your pride toward the work that you do. You’ll be educated to a high electrical standard, ideally in electrical engineering to degree level, with a strong understanding of HV and LV systems, CAN-BUS, hybrid systems and be able to read and control basic CAD. You’ll be confident both hands on and in a digital environment and want to be a part of an exciting and ambitious team.

      Naval Architect - Composites

      Are you passionate about innovation in the maritime sector with an interest in foils and/or electric propulsion?

      SYR are working in collaboration with an industry-leading innovator as they seem to grow their naval architecture team with a number of mid-level candidates. Due to a host of new projects coming online, they are looking to appoint new individuals to the team to cope with demand. 

      Reporting into the Head of Naval Architecture, the role of naval architect will come with the following duties:

      – Working with both internal colleagues and external clients to define the project scope.

      – Supporting colleagues in both hull and appendage design.

      – Devising vessel layouts, routing systems and component selection.

      – Design and engineering of foils and foiling systems, including hull modification.

      – Devising composite systems, specifying material usage, layup schedules and weight estimations.

      – Basic FE calculations.

      You’ll be working on a host of exciting projects from small luxury and personal craft through to exciting and challenging commercial projects, many of which will be first-in-class and require in-depth engineering skill. As part of a team of highly educated experts, you’ll be collaborating with a host of different organisations to create stunning engineering outputs. 

      As an individual, you’ll be educated to degree or masters level at 2:1 or first class level in naval architecture and possess a strong and current knowledge of composites and composite manufacture. Ideally having worked on foiling projects and boasting 5+ years experience, you’ll be seeking a new and exciting challenge to propel your career forwards. Sound knowledge of Siemens NX is advantageous, as is a strong interest in performance craft.

        Draftsman - Ship Design/Modification

        Due to continued growth, a leading engineering studio seek a talented Draftsperson to join them, working across the 2D drawing generation of construction and fabrication drawings for a host of exciting projects. 

        Known for their novel design and retrofit projects, the consultancy have enjoyed major project development and have seen their team swell to cope with the increased demand of the maritime industry. With workload continuing to evolve, they are now looking to expand the team further with a skilled Draftsperson into the team. 

        Working closely with the design and naval architecture teams, this role will include the following duties:

        – Receiving 3D CAD files from design and naval architecture for generation into 2D CAD.

        – Creating GAs for vessel layout redesign.

        – Creating 2D drawings in Autocad for construction and fabrication by external shipyards.

        – Ensuring and double checking that drawings and outputs adhere to the demands of commercial vessel class and flag requirements.

        – Storing CAD files within the in-house PLM system and releasing to shipyard in line with project requirement.

        Our ideal candidate for this position will have experience in either large commercial vessel new build or refit. You’ll be adept at converting 3D files into 2D drawings and be confident to challenge others and modify drawings as the project may require. With excellent 2D skills, your output will be highly accurate and detailed and be suitable to be shared with class and flag for approval. Furthermore, a solid understanding of large vessel codes such a Lloyds, BV and DNV would be a major advantage.
