We’re halfway there! The SYR Mid-Year Report

If you would like to receive this update as a monthly email register here.

Welcome to the second half of 2025.

Where’s the time gone? It feels like yesterday we were ringing in the new year and now we’re about to embark on the summer holidays.

Here at SYR we’ve had a stellar year so far, easing ahead of a challenging annual target and enjoying a steady and busy year thus far. Where June through August usually hits a pause button, we’re forecasting to hit one of our most successful months of the year in July.

The industry has an appetite for change and growth, mainly at the senior and c-suite level, but we’re here for it and continuing to develop and build our client base.

Our technical team of Alisha and Luke are diligently cementing our place as the go-to Recruiters across design, engineering and trades, welcoming a host of new and returning clients to the jobs page and maintaining a strong stream of interviews.

Over the coming months our sights are set on preparing for a busy show season, attending a number of local and international events and starting work on a website and marketing refresh. It’s all go!

Have a great month!

A whirlwind of a month here at SYR and a very healthy Q2 for my desk too. Lots of opportunities in Europe proving to be fruitful for skilled trades and production management. Plenty of client meetings coming up too which are both independent and at a number of shows on the horizon. It is the start of boat show season soon and I for one can’t wait!

Setting New Standards – The SYR Newsletter

If you would like to receive this update as a monthly email register here.

What a start to 2025. We’re still reeling from a first quarter that set a new record for us here at SYR. With three very strong months, we’re tracking well ahead of annual targets and are enjoying the level of busy that we’re seeing on all desks.

The shining star so far however seems to be the management and brokerage sector. Despite a challenging start to the year, this sector has been very busy, highly motivated and had the appetite to move things forwards at pace. We’ve noted successes with some great new clients and find ourselves working a host of projects on both sides of the Atlantic right now.

It’s also the first month of shows for us. This month sees us attending Ocean Business in Southampton and Palma Superyacht Show in Mallorca. One show being totally new to us and the other we’re visiting for the tenth time now.

Despite its strength throughout the year, we’re seeing design and engineering take a strong position coming into Q2 and expecting to see this continue.

Lastly, we’ve recently concluded a partnership run with one of our sponsors and are offering the opportunity to sponsor the next newsletter or indeed become a guest writer with a piece of editorial. Interested? Drop us a line.

As always, we’re here to offer advice and practical recruitment support so if you would like to know more about our services, discuss your career or how we can help grow your business, please do get in touch.

Have a great month ahead!

While the UK is getting hot, so is my desk, It’s been a very prosperous and eventful Q1! Working with some exciting new clients and working in volume on current ones too! A challenging yet rewarding quarter with lots of positives to take into Q2!

As my sixth month in the business nears, it’s becoming clearer that re-fit projects are where the work is as opposed to new builds currently. This goes for both the UK and abroad as the majority of my contractors are finding LOTS of work in this space. Is the investment and desire for new builds at a standstill for the moment? Lets see how it goes!

Maritime Recruitment on a high?

If you would like to receive this update as a monthly email register here.

Two months completed in 2025 and SYR are reaching new highs. We’ve ended February 25% up on last year, a start which in itself was the best in our company history and isn’t showing signs of slowing down.

With green shoots across the maritime world, seeing our customers growing to either cope with increased demand or based on industry expectations is a great thing to see.

It finally feels like the challenges of the past 12-18 months are behind us and that we’re in a period of normality from which businesses can be confident to evolve and develop.

Our move to work across the wider maritime sector has been paying off and we’re noticing huge growth not only in our superyacht management and brokerage sector, but also in European design and engineering vacancies. Welcoming two new major clients to work with us has opened up a number of exciting new high-level vacancies and further proves our abilities in maritime recruitment.

New recruits are also settling into the team and SYR are going from strength to strength and coming good on our strategy for this year.

As we enter the final month of the first quarter, we’ll start to see a lot of those previously sat on the fence starting to make hiring decisions. Jobseekers, now is the time to be sending us your CV and chatting about what could be next.

As always, we’re here to offer advice and practical recruitment support so if you would like to know more about our services, discuss your career or how we can help grow your business, please do get in touch.

All I want for Christmas is a shiny new job!

If you would like to receive this update as a monthly email register here.

Christmas is almost upon us, and I think the industry is collectively breathing a sigh of relief after a busy yet challenging year. With two major elections and continued unrest globally, the luxury sector has faced its fair share of challenges but is showing a degree of resilience and optimism when looking to the future.

The recruitment space for the first half of 2024 was incredibly strong, however the second part of the year presented more challenging conditions. The team have remained engaged with our client base old and new, keeping placement levels at an impressive level all the way through December, where we’ve seen a resurgence in new business enquiries.

SYR has also undergone a minor facelift, with our branding receiving a tweak to reflect our ever-diversifying customer base. Our capabilities now sit broadly across the maritime sector with our expertise spanning design, engineering, manufacturing, sales and much more.

We come to the close of the year with an extra face to when we started. Luke comes to the end of his second month having made strong headway across both temporary and permanent employment, servicing a number of our key clients and identifying some great new ones to welcome to the SYR family.

Looking to 2025, we’re planning hard for a busy year with internal strategy plans in the final stages of sign-off.

For now, we wish you a fantastic break, a great new year and look forward to seeing you once more in 2025.

Ed and the SYR Team

From skilled trades to executive search, we’re seeing an industry operating at a healthy level and continuing to deal with a busy and challenging order book and refit schedule.

Creative design and yacht management are currently our busiest sectors, showing strong potential both in the UK and Europe to appoint senior level individuals who will assist in handling the ongoing order books. If you operate in either sector, your candidacy would be of strong interest!

November brings our final international event of the year, METSTRADE. I’ll be attending the world’s largest marine equipment show along with attending a number of satellite events and visiting a number of our Dutch clients. I’m still available during the course of the event for meetings to discuss your career plans or indeed hiring requirements, so do drop us a line if you’d like to book a meeting.

As always, we’re here to offer advice and practical recruitment support so if you would like to know more about our services, discuss your career or how we can help grow your business, please do get in touch.

TEAM UPDATES

ED | CEO | ed@superyachtrecruiter.com

I’m finding the design and engineering market at a senior level to be hugely buoyant right now. With opportunities existing across Europe for those with 10+ years of industry experience, it’s clear that there is a huge need for long term industry exposure and expertise to handle projects at a high level.

A lot of optimism exists around the world of yacht design in the new build sector, with order books and teams busy through to 2026. In other areas, the marina sector is seeing a healthy level of development, especially in the eastern Mediterranean.

Senior Exterior Designer/Senior Interior Designer – Netherlands
SYR are working in partnership with a well-known and long-established superyacht designer looking to expand and evolve their senior teams in both interior and exterior design. Working out of a stunning office space and in a truly collaborative manner, the studio seeks to appoint individuals with 10+ years in the creative design and development of large custom yachts.

The final quarter of the year is always busy as new roles come to market. However, not all opportunities are advertised so please do reach out if you are considering a career change in 2025.

I’m particularly keen to talk to any Sales Brokers or Retail Charter Brokers looking to move; there are opportunities both in the UK and the south of France. Additionally, any experienced operational staff across technical and fleet management positions are also encouraged to contact me.

Consultant Surveyor – Yachts – Solent, UK
SYR are pleased to release a new Consultant Surveyor position to the market. Working on behalf of a boutique office specialising in technical representation on behalf of owners entering the new build market, this position would suit any candidate with deep onboard operational experience, refit PM, shipyard or marine surveying backgrounds.

One month at SYR? Completed it!

It has been a real whirlwind four weeks since joining the business and I’ve been enjoying every moment. Securing some great jobs, onboarding a new client or two, connecting with some great new individuals and making my first placement in my first 13 days – I couldn’t have asked for a more positive first month!

I am finding the market is tough given the time of year and more and more people going self-employed, demanding extortionate rates amongst skilled trades. However, we persevere and hope to secure a  healthy November for SYR!

Shipwright
Are you a highly competent Shipwright with experience in composites and extensive boatbuilding skills? Working for an established boatbuilder in Southampton, you will be working with some prolific projects at a great hourly rate.

See you next month!

SYR just got a little bit bigger!

If you would like to receive this update as a monthly email register here.

Q4 is here and with it, our busiest quarter of the year. Fresh from the 2024 Monaco Yacht Show we’re hard at work following up a host of exciting leads from across our existing customer base and as a result of new contacts made during the show. With a choice of vacancies in the brokerage space and with a number of industry innovators in the green space, it’s nice to be working with some brand new customers.

It was interesting to engage with the employment market during MYS, viewing hiring trends from across the Eurozone as well as stateside, sharing more key data and insights to help make key decisions. Check out our show report.

We see an industry with a retained appetite to hire and an increasingly mobile candidate market. More than ever, the importance of both parties understanding market conditions is paramount, as this could make or break a placement.

With our new quarter we also welcome a new face to the SYR fold. Everyone, meet Luke Dunton. Luke joins us as Technical Recruiter and will support us across design and skilled trades here in the UK, along with supporting some of our international customer base.

Luke has spent a number of years working internally for the team at Oyster Yachts before coming to join us, so brings a great understanding of technical recruitment and an already impressive network.

As we look forwards, we’re hard at work preparing for METS in just over a month, along with working on a busy selection of roles across the business that total in excess of 50! No time to relax here!

As always, we’re here to offer advice and practical recruitment support so if you would like to know more about our services, discuss your career or how we can help grow your business, please do get in touch.

‘I am joining SYR as working with Ed and his team externally as a partner at various events has shown me that his strategy, approach and tenacity in this industry is something to admire. The opportunity to join him on his journey and build on this brand is energising!

I will be coming to SYR to head up skilled trades and specialised design 360 recruitment for some great clients I have followed since joining the marine sector.

Additionally, I will be supporting in business development for SYR, all the while still being an advocate for apprenticeships on a broader promotional platform!’
