Welcome to the latest SYR View From The Desk

If you would like to receive this update as a monthly email register here.

It was great to get out and about again in April and I attended the South Coast and Green Tech Boat Show for the first time. Whilst I was only there for a few hours, the event seemed to attract quite a lot of visitors and had much on offer, from entry level to 60ft craft on display – one to add to your calendars for next year, perhaps.

I also attended the Palma International Boat Show with Simon Foulkes (Senior Consultant – Management & Brokerage). Luckily I wrote a full report up as soon as it had finished because two bank holidays, a coronation and a week hiking and running Majorca’s highest three peaks makes PIBS seem like a lifetime ago! Here’s the link to my full PIBS report.

As always, we’re here to offer advice and practical recruitment support so if you would like to know more about our services, discuss your career or how we can help grow your business, do get in touch.

TEAM UPDATES

ED | CEO | ed@superyachtrecruiter.com

Freshly back from PIBS and a short break, I see an industry that is buzzing around the start of this summer season.

Whilst my desks focus less around yacht operations, there is still a clear uptick across design, engineering and executive search within the industry and the nervousness we’d seen in the first quarter is all but gone.

It’s looking like 2023 will continue on a steady upwards trajectory this quarter with some exciting new opportunities with new clients.

Senior Interior Designer – London

An opportunity to work with an industry leading brand who operate in both luxury yachting and 5 star cruise ship interior design.

We’re seeking an experienced mid or senior level candidate with a strong interest in being a major part of a very exciting team.

SIMON | Senior Recruitment Consultant – Brokerage, Management & New Build | simon@superyachtrecruiter.com

The shoreside market continues to tick over, and whilst it’s not as challenged as Q1 I’m still not seeing the same volume of roles as last year. Clients remain cautious around hiring, and candidates must provide real value in order to secure an offer.

That said, there is still optimism around the market and experience in both sales and charter remain in demand. If you have a strong background in either and are considering career development, then do make contact with me for an informal discussion.

The recent visit to PIBS was enjoyable, a really nice and friendly show this year and a great opportunity to meet up with candidates old and new. Recommended!

Charter Broker

One of yachting’s most adventurous charter brokerages is looking for an experienced Broker to join their team and help deliver unforgettable client experiences!

This is a WFH role with a negotiable package DOE; you’ll already have 3+ years in charter behind you with a track record of success.

CURTIS | Senior Recruitment Consultant – Skilled Trades | curtis@superyachtrecruiter.com

The 2nd quarter of 2023 has been a challenging time in the market, with inflation causing concern for employees and global supply chain issues affecting employers.

At SYR, we have been working hard for both our candidates and clients to help overcome these and other challenges.

In the UK market, I have been working heavily within the servicing and aftersales areas of the industry, particularly keen to speak with Marine Engineers with experience in the servicing and maintenance of inboard/outboard engines – we have several companies looking for this skill set offering good salary packages and relocation assistance/support.

In the EU market, we have continued to supply leading yacht brands with contractors across skilled trades – Carpenters, Electricians and Composite Boat Builders.

We also have some interesting managerial roles available in the UK and Europe for people with a strong boat building background/knowledge, one of these opportunities is included today and my “job of the month”.

Quality & Compliance Manager

A leading Scandinavian boat builder is seeking an accomplished yacht-building professional to join them in a role overseeing quality control and compliance across their range of vessels and manufacturing locations.
